Uncompressing Type Files
After you have downloaded your type files and located them, they must be UNCOMPRESSED before they can be installed unless you have received a self-extracting, auto-installing windows font. Compression reduces the size of the type files to allow for faster internet transport.

Uncompressing WINDOWS Files | Uncompressing MACINTOSH Files
A. Uncompressing WINDOWS Type Files
Once you click "Download" from the FontHaus web store, your Windows fonts will be delivered to your computer compressed, or "Zipped" (made smaller for faster internet transport). You must un-zip the fonts BEFORE you can install them.

To do this, you will need a utility called "WinZip". If you do not have a current version of WinZip, click here for a FREE download of this utility. Once you install WinZip, you are ready to install your Windows PostScript fonts.

To un-Zip your Windows fonts:

1. Open WinZip from the Start menu.

NOTE: If it is not present in the Start menu, search for it via Start > Find > Files and Folders. Type in "WinZip". If you cannot find it on your system, download WinZip from http://www.winzip.com/

2. From within the WinZip program, choose File > Open Archive and navigate to the folder where the font/file you want to decompress resides.

3. When the file opens, you will see all included files in the WinZip window.

4. Click Extract and choose a folder in which to place your files.

5. Once you have selected your folder, click Extract.

6. Your files are now decompressed and sitting in the folder you specified.

TIPS:
1. Not all the files in a font archive may be fonts. Sometimes you'll find text graphics or text files.

2. The text file (if there is one) in the archive often contains important information about how you can legally use the font.

3. WinZip is not the only program you can use. Stuffit Expander for Windows is another one.

4. TrueType fonts will have an extension of .ttf while PostScript fonts have at least two files each: .pfb and .pfm
B. Uncompressing MACINTOSH Type Files
Once you click "Download" from the FontHaus web store, your Mac font(s) will be delivered to your computer's desktop compressed, (made smaller for faster internet transport). You must un-compress the font(s) BEFORE you can install them.

To do this, you will need a utility called "StuffIt Expander". If you do not have a current version (6.0+) of StuffIt Expander, click here for a FREE download of this utility. Once you install StuffIt Expander, drag the compressed font files onto StuffIt Expander and it will un-compress and open your font files. You will now see your font files inside a folder on your desktop. (Place the compressed font file icon in your trash.)

TIP: It is best to first quit all applications before making any changes/additions to the system’s fonts. You are now ready to install your fonts.

To un-Zip your Macintosh fonts:

1. Download the font to your desktop.

2. Open StuffIt Expander. If you're having trouble locating the program, search for it via the Mac OS Finder (Cmd + F). If you cannot find it on your system, download StuffIt Expander.

3. From within the StuffIt program, choose File > Expand.

4. In the dialog box, navigate to the folder where the file you want to decompress resides. Then double-click on the file, or highlight it and click Open.

5. You should now see a dialog box with a progress bar. When it is finished you will find your decompressed file in the same location as the original compressed file.

TIPS:

1. Not all the files in a font archive may be fonts. Sometimes you'll find text graphics or text files.

2. The text file (if there is one) in the archive often contains important information about how you can legally use the font.
